Australian Influences

I grew up in Australia and the influence of the Australian landscape and vegetation is noticeable in many of my quilts. The Australia Series celebrates the seasons Down Under, which are the reverse of those in the Northern Hemisphere. 

                 January (Australia Series)

The first in the series, January, depicts high summer in Australia with bright sunlight enhancing the brilliance of the flowers.

 In February, it is hot and dry and fiery winds assault the landscape. The heat lies like a weight on people and animals alike.

I remember the breathtaking blue-violet color of the jacaranda trees against the November sky.  

The Australian Outback is where my father's family lived for several generations.

The Eucalypt series is a tribute to the strange beauty of the Eucalyptus trees, which are native to Australia but are now to be seen around the world in many dry and desert places.
